Hair of the dog! or at least the same logic. The best thing for what ails you is more of what ails you. You just need to cure your lack of sleep by getting more sleep. Go back to bed.

Sbux quad-venti-caramel macchiato starts the day. Then it's Altera coffee as needed. If that won't do it, old-school Stevie Wonder. Don't ask me why, but Superstition or Higher Ground work wonders.
  • Joseph · 1 year ago
Hillsong, for sure! A little "In Your Freedom" blasting on the iPOD will open you up better than any sweet libation or torture on the treadmill!
  • skiescolliiide · 1 year ago
I jump in the pool. No joke.

And Josiah up there isn't joking around. The amount of caffeine in those things have to be a sin. Or an illegal drug.

It's a little song called "Here I Go Again." Whitesnake. Perhaps you've heard of it.

Just scrap it. Crawl back in bed and try again tomorrow.

If that is not an option, someone has to make a Starbucks run.

I work with at-risk inner city high school students during the day....there ain't no way I'm falling asleep...my drug of choice is the fear of what they might do to me if I fall asleep in class....LOL

a nap... and if that's not possible get the caffine flowing until you are twitching!

You're probably just tired from crying via your blog the other night. Good blog by the way, but crying can take it out of you, something that can only be reversed by exercise or Mountain Dew or the supernatural touch of God.

    STEP 1
    Find a nearby electrical outlet

    STEP 2
Locate a screwdriver and unscrew the outlet plate

    STEP 3
Using your fingers, reach around the electrical outlet until you find the screws on the side

    STEP 4
    You are now awake.

    It works every time.

Full Throttle FTW. If you don't like that, a Red Bull. Taking a walk probably helps too. Lots of breaks outside to get some fresh cool air.

    Quick nap at lunch maybe.

I am with the "go back to bed people." My first patient cancelled this morning so I went straight to sleep on the couch in my office!!! You and I are on the same wavelength today!
  • Rachel · 1 year ago
I got "mom'd" by both my boss and a coworker the other day when I said I was always tired, even though I got 8 hours of sleep the night before. They told me I should take my vitamins. I think I will. ;)

Aside from that, I listen to "Let Go" by Edison Glass or something of the like...and I mix a shot of coffee in with my Numi chai. Also, apples have natural caffeine. I eat one pretty much every morning.

If all else fails...nap at lunch and hit snooze as much as possible until I absolutely have to roll over and head back to my office.

Chew gum. No jive. Chew gum hard and fast. It pushes more Oxygen to the brain. When you are sleepy it is because of lack of oxygen to the brain. You'll see... or you'll sleep.

Travel always takes it out of me. Especially whenever I have to fly somewhere, like you have been doing. Depression also makes people lethargic. I am not saying you may be depressed but you have definitely been blue and lonesome for your good friends at Sandals. Here is my MOM advice. Take 1,000 mg of vitamin C and one hard boiled egg. You need good protien. Think healthy. Get a good salad for lunch. No more caffeine today!! Water, water, water. I know, that one is a little harsh. If all that does not work, go back to bed and don't feel guilty.

I am a very little person, and caffine affects me like this: I have one in the morning, it doesn't kick in until it's time to go to bed, hubby gets mad cuz I'm up till all hours, I sleep like crap, then the next morning my tiredness is like a weight on my chest. (Then most people would just drink another coffee, and this is how you get addicted to it.)I just deal with it for the day-I don't want to be addicted to caffine. This is why I don't drink coffee or soda but maybe once a month. (Godiva makes some bottled mochas that are heavenly if you add some raspberry syrup to it.)

I can't have caffeine (no chocolate, soda, coffee) it gives me migraines, poor me.
I agree with your mom for long term.
For short term: Take a 15 minute nap (if possible)with your feet elevated. If you can't do that try a short walk, something to get the blood flowing.
Tomorrow try some vitamins. B6 it a good energy booster. If you haven't seen the sun in a couple days you may be short on D.
Or go visit your daughter down at her preschool. Kids are always energizing.

Vitamins! A good multi-vitamin, taken everyday, normally helps me stay chipper.
  • Anna · 1 year ago
I do this very rarely, but Sunkist. As gross as it sounds. It's orange and full of caffeine and it does the trick. Lots of ice helps.

Also, loud, peppy music. Lots of talking. And yawning and breathing deeply both help you wake up, I've heard.

    Yeah, I'm a college student...

I have to say that the 5 Hour Energy Drink works wonders. It was suggested to me by a friend that uses it to get through tough rehearsal weeks at a certain set of parks in the Orlando region.

I agree with him. It's fantastic stuff. Gets me through my Sundays and through early morning shifts at Sbux.

YES, Excersise, somehow get your heart rate up in the morning. I wake to a warm cup of coffee my husband delivers before he leaves for work, I sip that over the early show. When my cup is empty (about a half an hour later) I get on my bike and ride while whatching TV or pray or both. For 30 minutes. Heres the big secret though I learned from a personal trainer. Immediatly after the heart pumping excersise lye down flat on the floor with your lower legs up on the sofa or a chair and lay your arms out straight from your shoulders... (like Jesus on the cross) this is neutral position for your body. Stay there until your heart rate feels normal. (about 3-5 minutes) This allows much needed oxygen to pump to your brain so get up slowly and have a great day!!!!! Also VITAMINS!!!!!

    Look within yourself.
Ask your body, "What can I do to keep you up?" Then do everything you can think of besides that one thing.
