Wife and I both stay up until around 1AM or later (it's 1:22AM now). I try to sleep between 8 and 9 hours a night. Often when I'm with friends or busy at night and leave to go to bed, I get really nervous that I'll miss out on the fun or whatever. I end up lying in bed worried that I'll be tired AND miss out on whatever's going on.

Re: Ragamuffin Soul » When Do You Sleep?

in a perfect world I would get 9 hours of sleep every night from around 1030ish to 730ish...currently I'm running on a bout 7.5-8 and frankly, it's killing me...gone are the days of surviving on 4-5hours a night.

Re: Ragamuffin Soul » When Do You Sleep?

In "Joniworld", this would be my perfect schedule...

Wake up 8 am; come to life at 9 am and go about my day
Wind down 2:30-3:30 pm
Nap 3:30-5:00 pm ish
Up and about til 7:30 pm
Wind down til 8 pm and go to sleep
Up at 10 pm-1 am
Back to bed til 8

But I don't live in "Joniworld" so I'll just have to trudge around like the rest of you.

Re: Ragamuffin Soul » When Do You Sleep?

for a good 3 years now, i've gone to sleep between 1:30am and 2am most nights. giving me approximately 6-6.5 hours of sleep a night. i haven't functioned very well in 3 years. :)

Re: Ragamuffin Soul » When Do You Sleep?

so really, I can go days without sleep. I don't like to but it happens. Since I work nights I don't sleep then and I hate to miss what is going on during the day (hence the reason I work nights) Lately, I've had 3 hours of sleep in a total of 51 hours. Seriously, it's one of my most important relationships. And since my love languages are personal touch and quality time, I need to feel those blankies around me for at LEAST 8 hours every night. I find that our most special time together is achieved from about 11pm-7am, but it usually looks more like 12midnight-8am. As long as it's 8 hours, I can function well and keep my friends. : )

Re: Ragamuffin Soul » When Do You Sleep?

Typically I am in bed by 2-3am. Up until I became Senior Pastor at Easter this year, I was working as a waiter in a restaurant full time, all evenings, 5 days a week. This meant I went to work around 4:00PM and then got home late - often 12:00AM or later. By that point I really needed to wind down, an would get to bed between 3:00-4:00AM most nights. Since I've moved into full time ministry, my schedule has had to change, but the schedule is still screwy. It's screwy because I am commuting to my church from 80 miles away while we try to find a place to live and a job for my wife. So for 3 days a week I literally live at the church and don't go home. It's great because I get a lot of work done. It's bad because my schedule is bizarre. While staying at the church I stay up until about 12:00AM and then read for a while - often things related to an upcoming sermon. I rarely get more than 30 minutes of reading before my eyes are heavy and my retention is low. I then get up around 7:15AM The other nights of the week I get to bed around 12:00AM, but no reading, and I get to sleep in later, until like 8:00AM. This is true for every day except Saturday night. I'm often up until midnight on Saturday night fine tuning my sermon, doing my last run through or two. I then have to get up at 6:00AM to get ready and then drive to church, which starts at 9:00AM. Tuesdays when I commute down to the church I get up around 5:30AM. This past Monday (yesterday) I had to get up at 5:00AM since we have VBS all week, and that starts at 8:00AM. To make Monday morning worse, I was up until 1:00AM doing laundry for the week, since I will be away from home from Monday morning until Sunday evening. Then the following week I fly out to Boston for a denominational conference!

So yeah, yikes!

Big Chris
http://wasecachurch.org

Re: Ragamuffin Soul » When Do You Sleep?

I try to go to bed before 1 am. I had a sleep study done. They told me that I sleep, but I don't rest. I would testify to that whole-heartedly. Besides, I am totally agreeing with Kim about "I could be working on __".

I took a quiz one time about how much stuff you do in a day and how it all adds up.
