we need a song on personal revival. my pastor stumbled across a song i wrote while looking through my file of music the other day - didn't know i wrote it. asked if i could lead it at the conference we had last week. i did because he asked. see i don't ever want to self promote anything i do. so in my mind it was a God thing that he chose it and asked for it. and now he wants it to be such a song.

i feel blessed and am scared outta my socks at the same time...secretly hoping maybe someday this could be a song that would catch on across the global church....but then again i am a dreamer.

we're singing one about drawing near to God and needing Him to draw near to us; relying on the Holy Spirit to work in us; and surrending ourselves completely to Him. That's the most current song revealed to us in MN.

The kind that makes you think the song has ended, for just a few seconds and then starts back up again. The kind that evokes a smile and the ugly cry. The kind that reminds you how small the current moment is and how large eternity is. The kind that won't let you drop your hands or care about whether you're singing in key.

One of the things I love about my church is that we DON'T sing songs that have a shelf life of less than 30 years. I don't mean that Tomlin, etc. songs can't be powerful, but there's a reason that the old hymns last 100+ years. The theology is solid, and the connection to Christians through the centuries and around the world means something.

That we sing the Gloria Patrie (Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, 'tis now and ever shall be, world without end, amen. Amen.) every single Sunday is incredibly centering. What else but what's in those words do we really need to focus on?

I'm an 18 year old college student who grew up in a contemporary environment and I dare say that the converted hymns (from purely piano+vocal to full band) are my favorite worship songs. I think they really capture the message of the Gospel better than most new songs today. (Not to hit on new songs - I do like them still). In regards to "Before the throne of God above", the theology in that song is incredible. Everytime I sing it I am called to remember almost every part of the Gospel! I love it. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying that I think we may not give "deep and rich" material enter the church as much as we should because of our own preconceived notions regarding the spiritual status of the people around us.

we going thru a series in authentic christian community right now. i've been mildy dismayed at the lack of tunes that address the importance of living for God in the context of laying down our lives for one another.

I only meant b/c each church has its own worship style. It would be perfect (and is perfect) for Sunday morning at another type of church. The language of hymns is deep and rich, but also maybe not as accessible to those new to church. Not sure...

My church needs to be singing a song about full devotion to God. Not just a Sunday checklist, or "something to do". But something real, that they can get their heart's and head's around . . .

We wrote one called Let It Rise Up (Listen here: http://www.reverbnation.com... which conveys the idea, but a song that really challenges them to seek God on a daily basis, in a real way.

I think our church needs to write a song that inspires balls to the wall excitement of how HUGE Christ is...that there is know boundary to who He is and all He can do...maybe in a call to worship format with TONS of percussion...I hear it almost like a chant that just explodes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm thinking my church needs to be singing about how just speaking the NAME of Jesus can comfort and restore peace and joy. It seems that a lot of those attending are fretting BIG time over the economy. The tithing has dropped dramatically (which never made much sense to me, but to each his own) and people are so on edge and wanting to back out of volunteering and commitments they've made. I don't get it. How quickly we forget the power we've been given and the one who walks with us.

I sounded cheesy with all of that - but I think you get what I mean. We're so "stuck up" onourselves right now. Focus is TOTALLY in the wrong place.

So I started writing, too... but I'm my own worst critic, and I don't know that it'll be finised. But here's to hoping my our Worship leader will push me to, since I already told him it was in the works. *eek!*
