morning! here in Oklahoma where the humidity can be brutal this time of year and will only get worse the next couple of months, similar to ATL I am sure...3 or 4 miles is okay but anything beyond that is tough and next to stupid for me...gotta go in the mornings and the humidity then may even be pretty tough....when I saw you training for the marathon this time of year, I am like wow! through July and August...tough but I am pulling for you dude!
  • Tabitha · 1 year ago
I prefer morning but sometimes it's afternoon or evening.
  • Anthony · 1 year ago
I run at night. Well, more of in the afternoon than at night. I typically run 3-5 miles per day (3 days per week). On two other days I try to run further. Yesterday I ran 8 miles... (blog explains why)... and a few days before that I ran 7.

When I was in college I was running 22-25 miles per run. Crazy.

So, I'm at this internship called the Honor Academy in East Tx. Being Physically fit is a major thing here. So every Monday morning @ 4:30am we wake up for corporate exercises with the entire internship of over 500 interns. For the January class it has just been bumped up to Monday and Friday. In August it will be everyday @ 5am. It's an hour of stretches, jumping jacks, pushups, situps, other exercises, and running(a few miles)

    So yeah...the initial question: 4:30am :)

    Excercise? Huh? What's that?

Does it count if I've got lightning fast mouse finger reflexes?

    evenings during the week

    afternoons on weekends
  • Andy · 1 year ago
Definitely prefer the afternoon - heat of the day, baby. And I'm in Santa Clarita CA, where "heat of the day" today was over 100. Unfortunately my schedule rarely permits me to run at the preferred time, so just when ever I can get it in...recently more often in the early evening.
  • Katy · 1 year ago
I like to run in the morning when I can, but usually I'm sleepy and do the whole go back to bed thing--except on weekends then it's nice-- so then I go when I get home from work so anywhere from 5:30-7 :)
  • skiescolliiide · 1 year ago
    was afternoons
    recently became never
    trying to go to mornings

5:00am, baby! I decided a year ago that if it's THAT important, I should do it the first thing in the day. So the alarm goes off at 4:40, I'm at the gym or running by 5:00, showered, changed and out of there by 6:15, then to Caribou for coffee and my quiet time (reading the Word is important, too, but it's not first because you gotta be awake for it). So get your tush outta bed and get movin'!

mornings only. I just don't have the energy at night, unless it's that other sweating you were talking about! Can't wait to see you next week!

    What's exercise?

Thanks for the comment. I love the blog, great stuff.
  • Renee Garcia · 1 year ago
I was going to say the same thing as Brad and Joel! haha I exercised once... I remember the pain the next day. LOL
  • Robin · 1 year ago
Afternoon/dinnertime. It's when I'm at my absolute best.
I despise mornings and I don't feel safe going to the gym super late at night.
    :-)

Evenings when I do excercise - if ever... :)

Well I've gotta get back into a regular work out routine, but I do best early in the morning. Like 5 am. Its hard to get up, but once I'm at it I feel so much better and have more energy for the day
  • AdamF · 1 year ago
The best is for me is late afternoon, but that rarely happens. Next best is in the evening.
  • Marcus · 1 year ago
Definitely morning unless it's raining. I should be doing it right now but I'm reading your blog...and everyone else's too.
  • Happy Mommy · 1 year ago
mornings! I would never do it if I waited until evening!

Always in the morning, early morning when no one else is up but us runners. It is the perfect time of day, especially in Texas during the summer.
  • drew.martin · 1 year ago
when i use the push mower to mow our large yawn. haha
i've tried to get into the exercise groove, but every time i have tried, i end up getting busy and never going back. lately i've been trying to keep up w/ the simple task of doing 50 crunches a day and can't even do that. so for now, i'll stick to my wheat/gluten free diet. that seems to be helping me lose the weight, for now.
  • adam · 1 year ago
i run at night. love it. last night was awesome - the weather was perfect.

ran .5 to recalibrate my nike+ (i do it every month) and then busted out a 5k. awesome.

my reasons for running at night:
    -its cool
    -no one is out
-no one sees my chubby, slow self running. well, not many people see it.

http://13point1.wordpress.com is my running blog.. haven't updated recently, but it's going to get one tonight.

I'm desperately trying to get switched over to mornings, but I'm currently an evening guy, which means that I miss more than I should due to various scheduling glitches.

Just started excerising and enjoying late evenings
  • Mandy · 1 year ago
Hubby leaves for work at 5:30...YIKES.

So unless I want to PAY a sitter, I have to wait until evening. Usually around 9 pm.
  • Sabrina · 1 year ago
Evening! Im definitely not a morning person, and I love running when the sun is going down..good scenery
  • Jam · 1 year ago
Usually I exercise in the mornings b/c my nights are busy with other stuff. Though I can tell we're alike b/c this week I've been rolling over and sleeping instead of getting up. Sometimes that's the way it goes. I'm on the path, and so are you, so we're on the right track.

First, congratulations on committing to a Marathon! That takes a lot of guts! Which one are you running? My sister just signed up for the Disney Marathon in January.

As much as I hate getting up before 5, I love getting my workouts done in the morning. Right now I work out twice a week early morning to do a kettlebell circuit class. On the weekends the hub and I go road biking. And the other days... I might workout in the evening, or I might not. Most likely NOT.
  • Matt Bunk · 1 year ago
Well, usually I prefer to run around 7:30 p.m. But if i'm in a Nike+ Challenge like the one I just wrapped up with Uber Runner LosWhit, I gotsta run at non-ideal times. Like, "shoot, I'm busy tonight, I better wake up at the butt-crack of dawn, cuz I know Los is dropping miles." or "dang. I just played and hour long soccer game where I ran a ton, but I should probably run home (4 miles) so I can beat Carlos." True Story. So, I laid the smack down and am feeling pretty good. You up for another challenge Carlos?
  • Andy · 1 year ago
You gotta love that alarm going off at 5 a.m.
  • Tracie · 1 year ago
When I exercise its in the evenings. I've been walking/running lately. Round trip its 3.5 miles. I try to go before it gets dark but I went later than normal the other day and got caught in the dark. The road I walk on has a sidewalk but it's not very well lit so it was a little creepy. But I definitely do it in the evenings. I just can't get myself up out of bed.

First thing in the morning before kids get up. During the school year it is after I put them on the bus.
  • iamthird · 1 year ago
i ran for the first time in a while last night.
  • vagabondrunn · 1 year ago
The last time I went running was when I went to Cedar Point in Ohio, and the Raptor had opened up after being shut down for awhile, and I was on the other side of the theme park.

I'd have to say my timing was great!

    Los -
I posted some haikus today dedicated to the folks that run the sound at church. (5,7,5 style of course) As usual, the readers ideas were funnier than mine. Thought you might like these that a reader sent in:

    "Did you turn it up?"
I lie and say "I did not"
    we make a great team

    "This song should not rock"
    Well, I rock it anyway
    we make a great team

    "Your guitar seems loud"
    "I haven't even played yet"
    Okay, I just lied again

    "Sometimes less is more"
Sometimes I flip you the bird
    When you turn your back.

    "Did you flip me off?"
"no"... why do i lie so much?
    We make a great team.

Morning as early as I can and on an empty stomach. I love the boost it gives me for the rest of my day.

    Good luck!

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday I go in the mornings. Wednesday, I go in the evening.

I love working out in the mornings, because I feel great the rest of the day.

I exercise in the evenings after the kids go to bed. I try not to do it too late because I don't like to be "sweaty" at night too . . .unless of course it is for a good reason. :)
  • forrest · 1 year ago
I HATE running and working out in the morning. late night 9:30 or 10:00. But I did miss out on that other kind of sweaty workout last night because the wife fell asleep while I was out running. Maybe I'll try running int the mornings again...
  • jessica · 1 year ago
evening/afternoon person. wish i could do mornings- and as much as i love them, i've never really been a morning person. plus with summer upon us, it's cooler at night. so lately, yoga at night. usually whenever i have time- might try switching to morning.
  • Jessica E · 1 year ago
    mornings 6-7am, 4 days a week
  • Matt R · 1 year ago
Used to run in the evenings until my schedule, and a crazy friend, convinced me to workout in the mornings. Now, even though the friend is gone I still get up around 6 am and head to the gym. There's nothing like getting to work and knowing you've already put in like 2 hours.
  • Marty Williams · 1 year ago
Cardio on an empty stomach in the moening burns 300% more fat than the same cardio in the evening. Waiting an hour after you run to eat burns even more. Also helps with sleep. The later you exersice the harder to fall asleep. For these reasons all training for me is in the morning. People are always asking me "How do you stay so in shape?" It works.
  • Joni · 1 year ago
Have to do it in the morning if its going to be a designated exercise time. Fortunately our health club has child care where the kids' gym time is from 9-10am. If I'm doing kids stuff--walking the zoo or to the park with the kids--that's anytime.
  • Brennon · 1 year ago
I run for Indiana University so I could not resist commenting. In the summer I like "getting it outta the way" in the morning. So then I'm not thinking all day about when I'm gonna make time for my run.
  • Lesley · 1 year ago
Running? What's that?? I HATE to sweat, so instead I swim at the "Y" on my way home from work a couple of nights a week. I miss the traffic, and by the time I get home, I am relaxed and ready for bed.
  • Gretchin · 1 year ago
I have not been so good with continually exercising but when I do I usually do it mid day at a local park. Although I do enjoy evening bike riding with my kids.
  • Brian · 1 year ago
Been in Kenya for the last two weeks so, needless to say, I haven't been to the gym in a while. I go in the early moring. Get up at 4:30a.m., spend some time with God, then head to the gym about 5:30. Home about 7:00 to get ready for work. I think I'll use this week to catch up on rest, and start again next week.
  • mondok · 1 year ago
run before the sun comes up. especially this time of year. it's a great way to start the day. it's a great way to jump start crossing things of your to do list. I always run in the AM.
