    "Raise the Standard"

Part 13 of the 'Doctrine' series by Mark Driscoll... The title is "Kingdom: God Reigns".

He teaches the whole book of Revelation in sermon, and it's ALL about Jesus.

Francis Chan's recent teaching called 'Holiness' is pretty awesome too.
  • ash · 1 year ago
Rob Bell- Easter Sunday 2008 or
Rick Warner- Camp 2006 (Grave Clothes)
I can't decide which I like the best.

Andy's part 2 of the Go Fish series rocked. That's kinda random I guess, but it was really good for me. Lot's of great stuff from Catalyst and Passion. It's hard to choose just one. All three parts of the Simple series were solid too.

I'll second Zack and say that Holiness is good one also. Driscoll's Church Planting in Corinth is up there also...maybe this should be a top 5.

I've got to also mention Andy's last message at Drive...for those of you that were there you know what I'm talking about.

The best sermon ever? Hard to say. As of late -- Driscoll's sermon on the emergent church. Amazing. It helped me put the whole thing in perspective.

I am not sure if it is the absolute best, but the first one to come to mind was E.V. Hill preaching his first wife's funeral. His text was Job 1:21 "The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord."

agree with phillip on "choosing to cheat" but #1 for me is reggie mcneal's "it's a.d. 30 all over again." watch it here. it's kind've a pseudo-sermon, but one of the most convicting!

Louie Giglio...Passion 05 (i think) all about Christ in you, the hope of glory.
  • Chris Meirose · 1 year ago
Mark Driscoll's series on the Book of Ruth. I don't know that I could pick just one out of that series. I've listened to all of them (six I think) over a dozen times each. Great use of story, great adaptation to his culture, and great biblical exposition. Tough to beat that.

Joe Novenson. He spoke at a chapel in college, and now nearly nine years later, I still remember his words. He listed various groups of people and the way they talked to each other and followed that up by saying, "What are you saying that is so loud or important that you can't hear the whisper of God in your life?" He's the senior teaching pastor at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga. All these years later, it still rocks me to my core.

The above mentioned is the best sermon I've ever heard... ever. But the best sermon I've ever heard live was the one on the night I gave my life to Christ... I don't remember the title, but the Pastor was Marcio Valadao - At Lagoinha Baptist Church, Brazil - http://www.lagoinha.com/engine.php?pag=ibl_home

John Green, Baton Rouge, LA. His series on the Life of Christ was the most amazing and eye opening sermons I have ever heard. The man has forgotten more about Jewish culture and scripture interpretation than most of us will ever learn in a lifetime. He is a person with the true Gift of Teaching. My feet are on a firm foundation because of this man. I always left his church amazed at how wonderful God is.

I had read that chapter many times but it came alive after that and It became a storng motivator in my life. I will NEVER forget that sermon cuz' it changed us.

Christine Caine-- from Hillsong Australia awesome speaker and I don't really remember the title but the message was great I have the notes stashed away in one of my journals. I just remember taking from it that God knows me, chose me, and is asking me to do His awesome work. I can't wait she is coming on July 19th and then coming to our HPC Women's conference.

Others that have always preached awesome messages that always leave me changed: my lead pastor Dino Rizzo (I never tire of hearing him preach), Johnny Green (teacher extraordinary), and Mike Haman (dude can give a great illustrated sermon and great cheesy sayings).

Hard to pick one but Erwin McManus' "Call to an Original Life" definitely stands out.

Rob Bell's "Jesus Wants to Save Christians" also stands out. Can't wait for the book to come out!

Andy's "Red and Yellow, Black and White" helped reshape the way I look at others.

But my current "best" sermon is probably Louis Giglio's "Hope: When Life Hurts Most" sermons. Probably more timing than anything.

Sorry...I have to renege my previous post. Those sermons are all great but I'm not sure how I could forget "The Way of Glory" by Andy Stanley and Louis Giglio (Yes, they BOTH preached and that alone is enough to trump most other sermons!). It was the last of the Canvas series.

Again, more timing than anything, but it made my cry like a baby and reminded me that God is in control of everything and He knows what is best for us even if we don't see it or like it. More than any other single sermon, this one has shaped the lives of my wife and me.

I believe that Andy himself said after this sermon that they should shut down North Point 'cause it wasn't going to get any better than that.

Mine is an absolute tie between Louie Giglio's INDESCRIBABLE and Louie & Andy's CANVAS, specifically part 4. I will never forget standing in NPCC, shirt drenched in tears, as it all came together at the end. Unbelievable. I never saw it coming.
