Amen. I get so tired of the ridiculous emails that go around saying how this is the darkest election of our lifetimes, or that the country will go to hell if one candidate or the other wins. We forget how lucky we are to live in a place where things won't fall apart, even if we're disappointed by the results.

we're learning a lot about immigration in our American Studies class. It amazes me that some people don't know what a grociery store is. we are amazingly blessed.

Amen, amen, amen... There are amazingly few places in the world where you can speak your mind without fearing for your life. Our country is leaning that way, and we may yet go there. It does matter who leads the country, and it's getting more critical with every election.
But MAN! I'm thanking God daily for the gift this country has been to the world and that I'm privileged to be living in it. I'm going to make the best decision I can given what information I have. And we get to debate it. That's incredible. So much blood has been spilled over the centuries to give us that right and to maintain it. It's tenuous and fleeting. It is not guaranteed. We can lose it just by doing the wrong thing to try and keep it.
Ultimately I'm glad God is in charge of me. What else is there?

peace
I am so looking forward to January 21, 2009 ... the day AFTER the Presidential Inauguration when life gets back to normal. This Election season is officially out of control. A friend actually yelled at me the other day over Politics. Yes, friend.Yes, yelled. Yes, politics. I kept saying "Why are you yelling?" "Why are you so angry?". They apologized and of course meant no harm in yelling ... they just got caught up in this circus going on. Everybody is so angry. Everybody is so mean. Everybody is yelling. I don't get it. Stop yelling. Ack, no thanks. I like peace. I like positivity. I just can't roll with anger.
It is okay if people disagree. It is okay that there are opposite views. People have been disagreeing since 1776 when this country was founded ... pretty sure people disagreed before then too. Point being, the world still spins with opposite views. Everyone is not going to agree about everything. So just roll with it.
I've only been voting since 1996 so I am certainly not an official on Elections, but the ones I have seen since then have all been the same. This party hates that party, that party hates this party. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. Blah. My brain hurts.
You like a candidate. Good. Go for it. Peacefully support your candidate. Tell everybody and their Momma why they should vote for your choice. Put out signs, wear shirts, attend rallys, raise money, write blogs, etc. - I am all for that.
But do not keep on and on and on about why they should not vote for the other candidate. Do not hate someone because they do not support your candidate. Do not automatically deem someone ignorant because they do not support your candidate. Do not treat someone like they are Evil or the Enemy because they do not support your candidate.
Can't we all just get along?
I have friends that are 110% Obama. And I have friend that are 110% McCain. And I have friends that don't know who they are for. And ya know what ... I like them all .. the ones I agree with, and the ones I disagree with, they're still my friends. And even if they weren't my friends. I respect them, because they're humans and God's children and unless they've given me a life or death reason to not respect them, I can be civil with them and act like an adult.
Be Peaceful People.
And educate yourselves. Do not vote for somebody because your Family has always voted Democratic or Republican. Do not vote for somebody because your favorite celebrity endorses them. Do not vote for somebody because they do or do not look like you. Do not vote for someone because of who your friends tell you that you should or should not vote for.
Take the time to do the research. Voting records are all listed online. Speeches are all listed online. Read them. Watch them. Find bipartisan websites that are unbiased and read. Know what both sides are saying and doing on each and every issue. Watch CNN and watch Fox. Listen to 1510am and 1470am. Check a variety of Media outlets to make sure the information you gather is not biased one way or the other.
To those of you that pray. Pray. Pray for both candidates. Pray for God to guide them. Pray for them to rely upon him. Pray for our leaders. If you agree with them, if you disagree with them, we should all still be praying for them.
And pray before you vote. Get that "Jesus Peace" about your decision ... as long as you have that ... no worries, let God guide you in all your decision-making big and small ... Trust me, I have tried decision-making with and without God and it works out much better with him.
Remember kids ... Politics are important, but they should not be the most important thing. Life is still going to be good, this country is still going to be great, and this world is still going to spin no matter who sits in the Oval Office ... God is still in control.
Be peaceful. Be positive. Be prayerful.
